Watercolor Series Part 3

Next in the flower series...again not totally finished, need to do some more white highlights, but wanted haven't posted in a while so wanted to put this up. Still not very sharp because still no scanner.

Design work.

Art/design work I did for my old highschool hockey team.

Flour Sacks

An exercise we had to do for my Clothed Figure Drawing class. It's supposed to teach us folds and how they conform to a shape. It's also an immense amount of fun.

9 Days

I came up with the design for my wedding invitations a while ago, but now that they're all mailed out I can show you guys. And to give credit where credit is due, Doug Horak helped me out by lending the proper Adobe programs (superior to the program I was using) and his digital skills. What took me hours to do, he did in all of 15 minutes. Thanks, Doug!

Final sketch.

Second painting

Started this tonight...

Thank you cards

I figured since we've already sent out the majority of thank you's it would be all right to go ahead and post the designs we used. I did these last month. Sort of quick and random, but still fun. And I've been getting lots of compliments on them. Do keep in mind these were printed on yellowish-colored cardstock.

Final Piece

I finished this yesterday (I swear!). The next piece I will be working on is a portrait of a friend of mine, Kim. This piece has been long awaited, since I took the photograph of her around this time last year. When I start getting paint on paper I will post! I'm a week behind but I intend on finishing four pieces!

As a matter of fact,

I'm back.
So, the book is about done, which means that it is panic time for real. Because of the aforementioned panic, I forgot that I wanted to enter this t-shirt design contest that was due at 5pm today. I remembered at 3:55 (cue swearing). It benefits 826 Boston, which is awesome, and you can learn about it here:

It also involves bigfoot, which is almost as awesome as Dave Eggers. I luckily had already made a sketch, which helped me to finish at 5:40, and they took the submission. Sweet. Had I more time, I'd probably put the head over and up near the shoulder, and extend the body to the bottom of the shirt. But alas, here he is:
Next in the watercolor series. Used white gouache FW white as well. Still some touchups and highlights to do, gotta even out the horizon and put the bird in the distance that i meant to put in there. But mostly done, lol. 10X14 in.

First Piece

Here's my first painting, it's watercolor and gouache (this is the first time I've combined the two). It's not finished... yet, I just have to put the reflection in. I'm behind on this challenge, by a week, but I'll finish four pieces. This is a terrible photograph, I'll take a better one when it's finished. The piece is 18x24 inches.

Character designs.

Still have a few touch ups to make before I stick these on my website, but otherwise these are close to being done.

First Week?

I don't know if you would call this a finished piece or not, but this is all I have. Last Sunday was my friend's birthday, she had an Alice in Wonderland tea party and I made her this card for the occasion.

Watercolor Series Part 1

First painting, but really a study for an upcoming series of watercolors based on photos taken by my mom with her crazy macro lens for a joint art show. May not make the entire september challenge but I did do this in one day so I'll try and maybe I can get Doug to do a superhero painting for me (crosses fingers)! On 10x14 Arches Rough.
Oh and still no scanner so i have to deal with pictures from my phone for a short time.

De-Stressing

This has been one of the most annoying days this week for me. Drawing outside, from life, in a medium I missed, was much-need therapy. This is the flower pot in our backyard. It feels good to get back in touch with this stuff once in a while.

I think it turned out a little lop-sided... :P

Blah.

For this month most of the stuff I post is gonna be character based, just to broaden my subject matter a little bit more.

By the way, I'm finishing the coding on my website today. http://www.dbhorak.com should be up later on tonight so check it out!

Cross Hatching

A drawing from out of my sketchbook of a tree that I found in National Geographic. The sketch is from a couple of days ago, but I haven't had time to post it until now. In the mean time I've been working on character sketches and cleaning house.
